Gas inspections (residential 2-family)

When we applied for the permit through DOB NOW, everyone (contractor, plumber, architect…) was waiting around for it to be issued. I found it right there where it should be in DOB NOW – the “professionals” couldn’t figure out how to use the system. This can’t be that hard, folks.

Hello – my understanding is that inspections can be scheduled online through DOB NOW. Is there any reason a contractor would use an expeditor for this?

Every contractor is different. Some do paperwork in house and others sub it out to expeditors.
My current company does both depending on what is needed.

Thanks Chris. This guy seems fairly old school to me so that may explain it. Just seems like an unnecessary expense and time-waster if it’s possible to schedule something online.

Expediters are still used cause the contractor either doesn’t want to deal with the paper work and learning how to fill it out right, or the contractor wants it done quicker; expediters go to the dob office in the morning and get it done on the spot.

Things that got moved to DOB NOW, INSPECT and BUILD can’t be done in person at the DOB offices at all anymore. They all have to be done online on the portal now, even for expeditors.

Most things got easier when they went online. Not DOB filings. After waiting 20 years since most organizations accepted the internet, DOB found a way to use this technology to make it even more difficult to perform simple administrative tasks.
