Sites sometimes don’t make it clear that one should not really use certain locks (meant for interior doors only) when the door needs to be secure.

so cate, this was what happen with the product from House of…. Someone i had not yet known went ahead an ordered it and called me to install. i did the install and then we learned that every time we set the toggle buttons to lock and threw the bolt closed and then open the bolt, it opened the toggle buttons (that one sets to either lock or unlock the knob function). i think the bolt was attached to the toggles so when you locked it it locked the handle and unlocked it. here is the problem with that: a lot of parents what that push button permantly disabled so if the kids step outside they do not get locked out. we could not disable these buttons and i called house of historic hardware and then i did some research and found the manufacturer of the lock body and when i called them they said that was the way it was and there was no way to set the knob lock button in one position and leave it. you can set it one way or the other but the moment you threw the bolt it followed the bolt open or closed.

that was a big upset for that customer. i only install Marks on jobs where cost is an issue or Baldwin on jobs where the budget is a little bigger. that is it. and the Baldwin customer service, i use a guy name tom and have his email, he can help me through any issue or custom configuration.
