DOB Expeditors

My neighbor plans on doing major work on his house – once I see a job filing on BIS – does anyone know any expeditors I can contact that frequent the DOB often enough to obtain the plans?

You won’t. You can look up to see if the neighbor has filed any plans and you can see what the scope of work is, whether any permits have been issued, whether any violations. It is information, not a blueprint. You have to go to DOB to see any actual blueprints or plans.

Oh, for Pete’s sake. You don’t even have to go down there. Go to the DOB website at this page:

http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/bsqpm01.jsp

You will see a bunch of links.

BBL = borough, block and lot. Use the link to ACRIS to look up the BBL for the property next door, using the address.

Then, once you’ve learned the BBL, go to the building information search. Put in the BBL and you can look up all filed jobs, whether there are any complaints, permits issued, if any, etc.

If there are plans filed, then you can go downtown and get them to pull the plans, but you will have a pretty good idea of what is gong on, and by whom, just by what is available online.

You can go down to the DOB yourself and ask them to pull the file and then you can make copies of things, you just need the BBL for the house in question.
