does anyone know any expeditors I can contact that frequent the DOB often enough to obtain the plans?

I so hope you are right slope. I just sense the walls will fall, I call the DOB and I get violations because the walls aren’t up to standard.

I fear I would have to have the fallen sheetrock picked up, put up new party walls on my side and then new physical walls – therefore having a smaller house.

rather than hiring an expediter, i recommend you take some time out of your day from endlessly creating new and similarly inscrutable comment threads to visit DOB yourself and request the drawings.

Blueprints will only show you what they filed with the DOB, not the work they intend to actually do where they move their walls inside your home. Jussayin.

oh ok – I asked about expeditors because the lawyer said that you need to get an expediter to get something done. Even then with an expediter, it can be a problem.

Once and for all, just to be clear, it is COMPLETELY ILLEGAL for a neighbor to bust through a shared wall and build into the space inside your house. They cannot just do it and if they do, you will know it and can call the police, call DOB, etc. From this fact, several important (and obvious) points:

1. You will not see it in any drawings. If someone put that in their plans, it would not get approved. So stop looking for drawings that would show this.
2. No one would attempt this. It is an untenable proposition. They would lose, whether in court, or at a DOB hearing, etc.
3. If they try it, you will see it happen. You do not need to live in endless fear that they are thinking.scheming etc . The moment they try to bust through your wall, you will know and can take action. But they won’t do it because . . .
3a. You have complete recourse. If they do it, they cannot keep the property. You will know the instant they try it and you have recourse. You will get it back and they will be severely punished.
4. A lot of us on this website have been around the block a few times when it comes to dirty real estate tricks. It should be reassuring to you that none of us have ever heard of this happening. That is because it does not happen. it is preposterous.

fwiw – my thinking was that at least if he had the filed drawings outshine would be able to better understand what the neighbor is actually planning rather than just grasping at straws. however, given the level of paranoia, perhaps the lack of evidence in the drawings that property was being stolen would just serve as further evidence of nefarious behavior. you’ve gotten lots of advice, recommendations, contacts, suggestions, comforting information, etc. you persist in opening more and more threads which some of us, apparently can’t resist. i’m out. good luck to you and your neighbor. sell your house. move to the country.
