I just learned about a new product that many of you may be interested in. It’s called BoxLock. You purchase a large outdoor bin (lots of styles and materials to choose from, or make your own), and you lock it with this lock. When UPS, USPS, or FedEX have a package for you, they scan the barcode with the lock. Once it confirms you are expecting that package, it unlocks so that they can put it inside the bin so Porch Pirates can’t steal it. It’s not cheap, but it may save many lost packages as we approach the holidays. Thanks Dave, we saw and considered that but our two cents are that 99% of the battle is just making sure the package is not in plain sight.

We’ve been using a regular wood deck box on our stoop — no lock or key — for 5 years now and the only time anything was stolen was when our favorite courier service (lasership) ignored the package box and just left the package out there.

Although UPS, USPS and Fedex are great at using the box, it’s enough of a battle to get the other couriers, particularly Lasership, to use it that I’m afraid of adding even one more step to the process.

Great idea tho!
