I think that shorter (not short short) and more frequent posts would encourage the “regulars” to come back more often during the day, maybe it would help engage new regulars too. I have to say, some of the posts these days are a little long to read during the day when theres lots of other work/life distractions.

Daily links used to be under a picture. You could click through to the link without having to go through another b’stoner page to get there (I guess you guys wanted more clicks). Seeing the titles of the links was better IMO.

If I remember correctly, there was at least one post an hour, something every half hour – or something like that. It kept me coming back during the day.

But I think the biggest thing is getting readers to comment – I really don’t know how to do that.

Thank you so much @no-permitz, this makes sense and is really helpful. We can start running Links on the home page immediately — it’s easy to do — it’s not about clicks, more about a change in how our software works and also the design of the site. We are already working on a plan to post more but shorter posts but it’s going to take some time to implement. Re afternoon links, per workisfun, it used to be a roundup of local neighborhood blogs and there are so few left now, sadly.

I used to enjoy the exercise of writing a few paragraphs seasonally about various Brooklyn homes’ mechanical systems (plumbing, heating, hot water, gas, etc) that Jon Butler would use as content but that’s gone. That always got great feedback and I thought that was good for everybody, yes me included, but my last submission several years ago got shot down. Waddayagonnado.
