Brownstone Windows on Top Floor - Help!

You need to swallow a bit on the cost and maybe get some Hunter Douglas Duette Shades and depending on how high up the upper windows are you can pay the extra to have them on a remote. If you are looking to save a TON of bank, Home D sells cheap paper shades with a sticky back and for the uppers you tape them to the top part of the sill and leave them closed then pay a bit more for whatever you like for the lower ones. Good luck.

The top floor bedroom has windows that are “split” top & bottom – picture attached for reference. Are these called something in particular? How do I cover these? Specialty blinds…but how would you cover them with a drape? One long panel that closes over both? HELP! [Bedroom_Master](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s2/:brownstoner:XADm:bedroom_master.jpg.jpg)

I just saw this picture in a listing. Is this a house you’re thinking about buying or is this the style of the windows you have in your place now? Just curious since I thought this was a really interesting way of doing windows, and I wondered how it looks on the outside.

The style of the actual window is called an awning window. I don’t know if there’s a name for the style of how they are arranged as a grouping.

How you cover them is purely personal – if you want to emphasize the height of the room, go for the one long panel that closes over both.

@mhw365 – its a place we are thinking of buying. Here is a picture of the exterior…the third floor has these windows – you can see the bottom bedroom window, and above the black exterior molding is the top window. [Exterior](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s2/:brownstoner:bs9k:exterior.jpg.jpg)

If it’s the Cambridge Place wood frame, please hire a structural engineer to give it a very thorough inspection. A regular home inspector won’t cut it.

Pretty sure that isn’t a wood frame. 🙂

It is 282 Clifton Place, Unit 2.

Holy cow, THATs what kids are paying these days? Yikes. The units look very nice and are very large but are pretty far from a train that gets you anywhere meaningful.

Also beware OP, do due diligence on the build quality. Tho it looks like a nicer flip, it is probably still a flip. You may have more concerns to address than just the curtains.

You can buy a full brownstone for that price.- in decent shape too.

I’d consider separate venetian blinds on each to control light/visibility & then a full length curtain of some kind to suit your decor.
