I’m not sure how that’s not self explanatory. You posted a question in a forum, and it seems as if any person who doesn’t agree with you gets an aggressive response.
If you can’t grasp the concept of trying to be cordial towards your neighbors I’m not sure what to tell you.
Nobody has stated that your neighbor is right or what he’s doing is legal
We’re simply stating that when you approach people in a nice way, they may listen to you.
Isn’t that the point?
You want him to stop using the cones, do you really think antagonizing him will make him listen to you?
It seems as if all you want is for ppl to jump on the “he’s a jerk, ppl like him suck and I am right” train”.
Not once has anyone stated you were wrong, we literally ALL agree with you.
But if you want an EFFECTIVE approach, try to be nice to your neighbors. You can exercise your right to call 311, but I guarantee you, you’ll be trading 1 set of problems for another.
Will it really kill you to say to him next time you see him “hey I know we got off on the wrong foot, my name is Randy etc etc etc ……”
Then expl ain your issue with the cones.
You’re literally skipping over the easiest way to handle the situation.

In all fairness, you weren’t “nice to him”. You moved his cones because you wanted to park, then when he approached you, you two bumped heads. Prior to that you two had no interaction.
Did he actually threaten you? Or did you just feel threatened? There is a difference
Did he literally say he would harm you?

Even your response to MDR about the guy parking with the two trucks full of metal is riddled with entitlement:

I’m not going to agree with the tone and words RW used, but I can 100% understand why they said what they said. Everything you say has a touch of superiority woven into it. In your defense, you probably don’t even realize it.
All that aside, if you want the problem solved, you can try to be civil towards him.
If you want a bunch of folks to just agree with you….then I guess you came to the right place

@N B Ok let me start this off by saying my first move ALWAYS is to talk nicely to my neighbors first. Chances are, if they’re in my immediate area, I know them anyway. Even if I don’t, my motto is and will be “You catch more flies with honey rather than vinegar” with my neighbors.

Still, I think Randolph’s point is being lost here — if you’re rude enough to block off the street with cones (or blast music etc) without consideration to others, you will be rude enough to ignore any nice requests to be more considerate.

In our area, many MANY polite requests to be considerate in one way or another by neighbors very old (we’re talking 30-60 years) and new go completely ignored by the neighbor, so we have real issues. This is even if the old owner politely asks of another old owner.

We will continue to ask nicely at first but for sure, it rarely works in our nabe.

It’s a large jump to assume because someone leaves parking cones in front of their mom’s house, that they are an overall POS….

Let’s also point out that when Randy parked there that night he had no idea why the cones were there, he was just tired of driving around.

I have a con ed access grate in front of my house in the street. Last year they had to come and open it up to fix my electricity access. The night before they were scheduled to come work on it, I blocked off the spot. When my next door neighbor came home he rang my bell and asked me why I did it. I said because con ed was coming super early and they would need to block off parki ng in front of 5 houses.
He said he understood and we went about our lives.
His first reaction wasn’t “let me call 311”
Sometimes it’s just better to confront ppl
