Attorney recommendation for water main damages

If you have not had the main replaced already I suggest Harris Water. If you have the work completed, who did you use?

Our water main was damaged during a Natl. Grid gas pipeline replacement project and shut off by DEP in the middle of a cold winter night without explanation. Subcontractor (Hallen) says it was pre-existing damage. Our DEP insurer (AWR) says it’s Hallen’s third party damage. DEP won’t provide any information. Everything is on video and still here we are–out $12k in damages. NYC and NYS government agencies could care less. Any recommendations on someone experienced in these matters?

good luck… if you check the archives the AWR insurance almost never pays a claim. Never understood how the DEP allowed them to send out sales pitches using the DEP logo

I contacted the public service commission who replied that National Grid, DEP and AWR are not within their jurisdiction so I should pursue a civil matter. You can’t make this stuff up.

I’m 100% positive that National Grid is within their jurisdiction. National Grid has a claims department that you should speak to. Also, talk to your insurance broker.

I am too. That’s why all this is so comical. National Grid claim refers you to Hallen. The insurance broker says water mains are not covered by hazard insurance (that’s why we have AWR coverage). Thanks for your thoughts.

Have you checked w/ Hallen? They damaged the water main into my house 2 years ago & had it repaired by another licensed contractor within days.

Hallen denied the claim saying it was pre-existing damage. They assert they just happened to find the damaged line as they were picking the trench with crowbars and shovels. Thanks for your comments.
