Anyone knowledgable about the IAI process for renovating a rent-stabilized apt?

We are renovating a vacant rent-stabilized apartment in a small building and wanted to get advice on the IAI process. We consulted DHCR and got some generic info, but really interested in how smalltime landlords typically handle these since we’ve heard they are increasingly scrutinized. We look to do everything “by the book”, but “the book” seems to be changing constantly.
Anyone know this topic well and want to share their knowledge?
