Hello all,
Our house has a large garage that eats up a lot of our back yard. We’re pondering the feasibility of turning half of it into a screened porch/outdoor room by adding large windows and sliding doors to 1.5 walls and replacing the double garage door w/a single one. (The garage has a concrete foundation and wood/shingle roof and is made of engineered stone; our hope is that the existing foundation and roof could remain intact.)
My problem is that I don’t know how to even start looking into this project. An architect acquaintance of mine says that it’s too small to interest most architects, and most structural engineers also seem to work on much larger projects. I wouldn’t trust a general contractor to know how to deal with the structural issues this would involve. Does anyone have any other recommendations on where to start?
