What to plant around sidewalk Tree Bed?
You might want to check out some hardy perennials that can tough it out all year round. Hostas and daylilies are pretty solid choices since they don’t need much babysitting and keep looking fab. Sedums are also great for adding some texture and color without needing a green thumb.

Yes! Is the sidewalk tree bed in the shade or sun or a mix? If it’s sunny, lavender, thyme, and grasses are evergreen or semi-evergreen. Hyssop will grow all year round in the sun and doesn’t require much care once established. It’s not evergreen but the dried stalks look good in the winter months. Cut back the stalks to a few inches in March before the bees come out each year. Underplant with spring bulbs.

What you can plant does very much depends on how large your tree bed is — the most important thing is healthy tree roots. I have some tiny tree pits that just allow for some perennial ground cover while others have room for wild geranium (spreads nicely, takes shade and very low maintenance), bulbs, and hardy grasses. Thank you! I’d say its shady. Only gets sun until about 1pm then the sun is behind the building. As well the tree is very full and casts a lot of shade on the tree bed. Any other advice here?
