Time Warner vs. Cablevision

I’m considering leaving Time Warner and going to Cablevision for their triple play. Anyone have any insight regarding service, etc? Thanks.

God forbid they have to compete with each other and improve their service.  I remember being in the OP’s situation and calling whichever company I didn’t have to switch service and the woman told me how they don’t compete.  They might be in the same building, but not the same billing address.

Well I just spoke to Time Warner. They indeed did lower by bill a bit and gave me a few extras. I guess the squeaky wheel….

that’s right – the only way you can switch cable providers is to move to the other company’s territory. your other options are satellite for tv & dsl internet (which I wouldn’t do), or verizon fios (not available in many locations). Like nalusurf, you can cut the cable and watching streaming video via roku, DVD players or game systems w/ wifi / sreaming capability, or watch over the air hdtv broadcasts with an antenna.  If you want the 3 services, but your promotional price runs out after 12 months, call them up and tell them you’re cancelling the TV service. They’ll usually connect you to someone who’s job it is to try to persuade you not to drop TV by giving you the new customer deal again.

I ahve experienced the same as bobmarvin points out.  Lived in an area that Time Warner served and when we moved, about 5 miles away, we found ourselves in Cablevision territory.  Call Cablevision to see if they serve your area.  They are both crooks anyway so I don’t think it will matter too much who you wind up with.  Our solution was purchasing a Roku box (about $100, one time expense) and signing up with Netflix for $7.99/month.  Serves our TV needs wonderfully.  We use Cablevision to provide internet only.  It is a sacrifice for TV choices, but, man, it saves a TON of money and Netflix has some pretty extensive choices.  We got rid of our land line years ago, just don’t see a need for it nowadays. Anyway, my 2 cents, I know you dodn’t ask for it!

I thought that one company or the other had an exclusive franchise for a specific area and that switching wasn’t possible.
