my tree has holes - what´s going on?

The USDA is the agency in charge of eradicating wood borer beetles. A few links for you: http://www.nycgovparks.org/trees/beetle-alert You can call 311 to arrange a check, or (631)598-5943, the USDA Amityville office. It might be another woodborer beetle, but they will want to have a look.

I have a huge silver maple in the backyard and it´s not doing so well. Last week I discovered holes and sawdust at the tree base. The holes seem a bit small for to be made ‘Asian Longhorn Beetle’ from what I see online. All the other symptoms fit though: maple is their favorite tree, there are dying branches, sawdust, perfectly straight holes. Any tips? I´d like to have the tree inspected by the city but I didn´t find the right contact yet.
