Solid 2" wide, 5/8" thick White Oak Flooring - the search
You can get it at Premium on 3rd Ave and 2″ is the common width, 3″ would be a special order.
“Basic floor installer” any flooring contractor worth his salt will have no problem with this kind of installation

Want to replace our 100″ year old flooring in kitchen w/original 2″ wide, 5/8″ thick solid flooring and finding it’s a very elusive product. Anyone have a source for this beautifully sized hardwood flooring? The 21st Century is giving me 3″, 5/8″ everywhere, but surely a contractor, renovator, flooring and wood expert could give me a lead.
much appreciated,
Liz

That 2-inch is a really nice proportion – especially when it’s rift or quarter-sawn. But seriously, why not just have it made? Yes, a custom order might be 40% more money than the generic 3-inch that you see everywhere, but if your floor area is small, that wouldn’t be such a hit. There are lots of floor guys around who can do this, but you’ll need somebody a little more substantial than a basic floor installer.

Liz,
Are you sure it’s 5/8″? It’s usually 3/8″ One of my Brownstoner clients found some new that we patched in, but otherwise, yes, it can be milled.
(I have a question for you actually. A new client called regarding excessive water coming into the cellar and was looking for a solution like the one you posted recently. Could you email me the name of the specialty contractor you were referring to for the waterproofing?)
I will also get you the name of my client who found the 2″ oak somewhere.
Thanks! masterbuildernyc@gmail.com

thank you both for the feedback – I think I’ve found 2 1/4″ wide, 5/8″ thick quarter sawn, unfinished white oak. Will revisit the 1/4″ difference after a good night’s sleep because finding it took all day. However, masterbuilder if you have your client’s contact info w/the 2″ source – please email me at liz.dory@gmail – that would be terrific.
I posted the contact information for excavation contractor in the original thread — might be useful to all.
with best wishes,
Liz

the face nailed 5/16″ inch thick is available in 2″. This is not T&G. It is available at Eastside on 124 st.
Adriatic on Pitkin Ave can make anything you want in any species you want.
