Old pine floors got messed up knocking off old stucco on walls.

Waxing floors with Johnson paste and a buffer seems to give it a second life. If it’s your tentant will be living there for at least another year and he is the one who messed them up, make him do the work and pay for the cost of the repairs!

I allowed my tenant to remove old stucco/joint compound in ugly waves that were on the walls. Unfortunately, he did not cover up the floors and spent about a week walking all over them with the stucco covering the floor. My fault. I didn’t know how much demo he was planning. The floors are not so much scratched up as they are now extremely dull and dirty. Yes, I mopped about 10 times.  I don’t want to spend the money, time and effort to have floor guys come in. Any do it yourself fixes that can at least bring the floors back to a shineier, healthier looking state? Thanks in advance all.

“Rejuvinate” IMO is a great product. It’s sold at Home Depot and through their own (VERY tacky) website. Despite the “as seen on TV” tackyness the stuff works very well (at least on my oak parquet floors) and is removable if you don’t like the results.

the dullness is a result of scratches..  not gouges or anything, but thousands of tiny scratches with plaster and whatever else ground into it, or just plain scratching of the clear coat.  You need to either remove, or fill in those scratches to give the floor lustre.  The first option (removal) is the one you’re not interested in, so that leaves you with some sort of polishing. Get a good floor polish, and a hard sponge mop (you’ll need some elbow grease) – and go to town. I’ve never used rejuvinate – but it has the right ingredients…  a two stage buff and polish available, with a pad to do it.  I just find the spongemop to be easiest on large areas.   If its really bad however(still hazy after polishing) you’ll need to machine buff it to remove the tiny scratches to get any better.  Other than commercial cleaners, waxes and polishes, i’ve used the orange glow package (another tacky as seen on tv product- but works)  with good results. Keep in mind – most of these polishes produce a glossy lustre than you then have to keep on top of to keep looking good. For a satin lustre – you’ll need a wax or satin pledge. Actually – skip all this – have you tried a can or two of pledge, for floors?  without seeing the damage its hard to gauge how much effort should be put into fixing it – but pledge works great for evening out the footpaths that happens on floor finishes.  Careful – it’s slippery for the first few days.

Yes, I second the Rejuvinate idea. I got mine at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
