Lowes Tile Installation?

Wondering if anyone can comment on Lowes for tile installation?  Am considering for basement floor.  Seems to cost about $5.50 sq ft. Thank You.

I don’t know what your expectations are or what Lowes is offering.  I don’t know what it looked like before the new concrete, what is inside and under, how thick, how it was cured, what kind of tile.  I have seen many failures of tile floors in basements, mostly due to unaccounted forces of expansion/contraction and vapor.  I have seen a few houses for sale with finished basements, increasing the apparent living space, but the basements smelled moldy.  Lowes must contract this out to somebody who makes a couple of bucks less, and would only do the minimum, where as Ditra would cost a couple of bucks more.  It does not seem to ad up.  I don’t trust the mortar at Lowes and would rather pay more at a store specializing in tile products, or for specialized mortar for particular conditions.

Successful tile installation has something to do with the actual setting of tile, but most failures occur long before that.  What sort of prep is included in the fee?  Expansion joints?  Crack isolation?  Knowledge of and response to conditions is what determines success.  Dream on.
