I need to redo the floors in my basement, which are presently covered with laminate flooring. I’d like to install new laminate that looks as much as possible like wood. Any recommendations for an installer, a company or a brand would be greatly appreciated!

I ended up using the brand available at home depot. It will never feel like wood but a lot of them do look pretty good for vinyl.

Also they are incredibly easy to install. You just need a utility knife and some time. They just stick together with an attached adhesive strip.

In our previous place we had a finished basement and found, what I believe, was a much better alternative to laminate. It’s called solid vinyl flooring and it is made specifically for below-grade applications. They make it in many different types of wood finishes and patterns and it does not have that awful plastic feel/sound of laminate. We chose an oak finish in a typical plank pattern. It goes down very easily using an adhesive. We had it for 6 years before we moved and it never failed or started to peel up. The feel on your feet is softer as it is vinyl compared to laminate and it looks just as much like wood as it possibly can (obviously there is no perfect substitute for real wood). As I said, this is made for basement applications and really stands up to the unavoidable moisture issues. I don’t recall the brand but we got it through Midwood Lumber. Good luck!

What nalsurf is describing is what I got a home depot. Any flooring store will have similar products. It is much better than laminate.

Yeah, HP, I just saw it on Lowes’ site as well. Don’t ever remember seeing it in the big home centers before. Price is very comparable to other options too. In fact, I remember arguing with the sponser in our previous place about it. We wanted anything but tile, which he insisted had to go down, and the vinyl flooring was even cheaper! I noticed that the Lowes product was a “peel and stick” type. Personally I would look for one that requires a separate adhesive application as my experience has found that those with a pre-installed adhesive do not stick as well or nearly as long.

It is actually a floating floor. They adhere to each other and not to the floor so it’s a bit of a different application.
