Best material for stair runners in brownstone?

Richie at Bay Ridge carpet is excellent and has good prices. Highly recommend.

I am looking for recommendations for materials and places to buy stair runners.  This is for the main staircase in a brownstone, which goes up to the tenant apartments.  We would like something that will hold up well over time. Considering sisal.  Is wool or synthetic sisal more durable?  Shoud we be considering other materials?  What it a good place to find them?    Thanks!

I ordered mine from www.rugdepot.com  They have a HUGE selection at a wide range of prices.  I think this is the one I bought at $10 per running foot.  It was a very high quality, thick pile, nicely bound on the edges.  They will talk you through the measurements and the installation.
