About "Jose" and "Jose" and "Jose"

With the repeated suggestions here of calling Jose about flooring, I’d feel more likely to call if someone provided a little more in terms of specifics.  I’ve never seen a last name posted.  Nor a company name.  Nor any hint of whether he was a one-man show or a larger company with a couple of crews.  Nor if he’s an informal guy on his own, or completely licensed and insured.  Am I the only person who likes to look someone up before calling?

You might be confuse about it, but you have read it right, It is what it is. Don’t be confuse, this is how brand name sometimes tricky and unique as they wanted to be. This perhaps may refer to a group of persons or joint business where they holds similar first name or a family name. Think of some law firms such as “Jose and Jose law office”, sometimes they have this kind of business strategy to let their whole joint business be known as well as who they are. This is brand name competitions works, they can be as tricky as this but the whole catch is to broadcast not only their business but they let consumers know that they are the owner of the business. Personally, this is form of a joint business of family members or relatives that are from Latin America or from Mexico and or nearby. Not that so catchy names, but unique for them, anyway, this site [http://eatmywords.com/](http://eatmywords.com/) gives every business a good brand name to call.

Housepoor, that sounds horrible. Starfish, Jose Costillo will definitely *remove* linoleum, but I don’t think he installs it. You could always ask though. Usually the guys that sell the flooring also do the installation. Also, just FYI, if you are installing Marmoleum, be very careful — you have to use an approved installer, and there are only three in NYC. Of the three, I like Ritchie’s Carpet and Linoleum in Bay Ridge the best. But if you’re looking for inexpensive vinyl flooring, you might get a better price at a neighborhood place. There are a bunch on Broadway, for example, in my area.

I don’t lnow his last name either. he did a great job and also did a friend’s floor as well and she was very pleased.  The first Jose in mopar’s post. He wouldn’t be the first guy I’ve had to my house without knowing last names!!!!!

Thanks, Mopar.  Your thorough reply perfectly illustrates the problem of mentioning guys only by first name, with no other information. Allans, I’m surprised at your saying you’ve never heard of any Jose, as the name comes up here as often as that of Carlos Salazar.  Unfortunately, Carlos is/was apparently affiliated with Inti, and when I telephoned them, I found it so off-putting that I wrote them all off. This is really just a fairly small repair, but I’m amazed at what I’m going through in trying to find someone, especially with guys not returning calls.

I used Jose Zambrano for a job recently. Decent prices, great work, really good communications….but. His guys moved a dishwasher, kinking the waste line. The first time the d/w was used after the job (it worked fine before), it flooded and some of the floor warped. I told Jose about the problem, which he adamantly denied would ever happen. I had asked the guys to move to d/w and refrigerator out to get the (visible) wood under it, and they agreed to do it. Meanwhile Jose promised to come back several times and never did….he simply blew me off. He was great until the check cleared. I was really disappointed after the great start.

Not only the quality of the product, but the length of the drying/curing time and the number of coats will greatly affect the durability of the finish.

Never heard of Jose, try Carlos Salazar at JC Martin Renovation – I’ve used him for my Brownstone rental apartments in Bklyn and my personal home.  He’s licensed, insured and pricing is always competive.  Lastly they are the only crew I know that used a high grade “professional” finish (poly) called Bona Traffic.  I used another guy prior to finding Carlos and the finish must have been generic “home depot” stuff as it was gone within 2 years – hence I found Carlos who re-did everything.

Pretty funny! The Jose that Dave in Bed Stuy has used is Jose Zambrano of Better Wood Floors. I have seen his work and spoken to him on the phone. He knows his stuff and his prices are very good. I would definitely recommend him. The Jose I have used is Jose Costillo. Also very good, but doesn’t speak much English and is not as retail oriented. He will do anything you want, but if what you want is a bad idea, then that’s what you will get. He does a great job with stains. Also very inexpensive. We paid about $1.50 a square foot for a large job with staining and four quotes of poly, approx 2700 sq feet — a little less because we didn’t refinish the kitchens and baths. He also patched a few spots. Also a great guy and very trustworthy. He has a truck and one partner and another worker or two. The third Jose installs floors. I have also met him, but never used him and don’t have his info handy. He’s fairly expensive.??
