Two kittens and Brooklyn Backyard
I’ve got 2 kittens (6 and 8 months old) and a big backyard. I’ve got 6 foot fences and Id love to let my 100% indoor cats into my backyard. They will never be unsupervised. I want some tips on what I should do to take it accessible to them. Any input would be appreciated.

supervision with such young cats will quickly mean supervising them as they climb up and over your fence. unless you get the cat-proof fencing mentioned above, there’s no real way to keep an energetic cat corralled in one garden. I have a feral colony in my yard and after we put a fence in you wouldn’t believe how fast they took to scaling it (and sleeping on top of it!) older cats may be trusted to just go into the yard to sun themselves and return, but kittens this young (presumably with no street experience) are too unpredictable to trust outside in my opinion.

Be careful, a cat much less a kitten can squeeze through some small openings. All of mine never go out and a window is fine for them. I have taken a number in over the years that were domesticated but got lost.

I’ve been using something called the “Cat Fence-In System” for years. You can get it online and now there are all sorts of knock-offs that probably work just as well. Basically, it’s netting with angled brackets for the top of your fence. Ugly, but it works.

If they will never be unsupervised, i don’t see any issues. If you thinbk they might bolt on you then maybe a leash??? But, we found that if they are skittish about being out, leaving the door wide open gives them some comfort in knowing thewy can run back in.
