Hello brownstoners, We recently purchased a condo in a pre war building (in brooklyn) and are looking to renovate. I know there are already quite a few threads on here asking for recommendations for general contractors, but apart from a gut renovation of the kitchen and bath, we are also looking to raise the ceiling height in our living room. We have sprinklers installed so it will entail raising the sprinklers and potentially some pipes as well. Does anyone have recommendations for contractors who have experience with a similar project? The apartment is roughly 1350sqft and we will also be replacing windows, moving some walls, buffing and staining the floors and redoing electrical. The AC ducts will also need to be adjusted as the ceiling height is being increased. Thank you all in advance!

If the ceiling height is there and all the pipes service your apartment then any good GC should be able to do this. We’ve done work like this many times. If on the other hand pipes that need to be moved or raised are from your neighbor above then you will most likely need permission from the condo board/management company. http://brownstoner.staging.wpengine.com/curated

Just an add on to the above comment is that if you’re doing anything at all to the ceilings, perhaps the pipes could be raised into the framing so that only the sprinkler heads need to come through. There are drop down heads with covers for that type of installation. Just t thought, hope that helps! Matt R www.nyc-hs.com

thank you all. We are going to have the pipes flush against the joists and then have only the sprinkler heads come through.
