basement access to backyard?

Well, thats not the bigest of problem. Consult any local contractor or an architech. They will solve your problem.

we have a 4 family with access to the backyard only through our rental unit on first floor (owners occupy upper floors).  we’d like to build access to the backyard via the basement – stairs and some kind of covering and doorway for the backyard.  does anyone have recommendations for contractors or architects who specialize in this kind of thing?

if you can afford maybe a deck on the outside and stairs down would be more convenient? do you have fire escape already because it’s a 4-fam? I’ve always wondered if you can modify a fire escape this way. Maybe it’s not legal.
