No records on file for conversion from oil to gas heat

Or eventuially when you do need to file for some plumbing/gas work, just include the boiler in the work type. You’ll have to do a gas integrity test no matter what, so why not. If this is a one or two family that’s easy. If it’s a multifamily it might require a more subsantial boiler filing (schedule C).

Hi. I took a look at a nice house today. The owner said he had converted from oil to gas heating within the past two years. I checked nyc.gov and there are no records–checked for the Boiler Record, DEP boiler record, etc. Nothing. The house hasn’t had requested a permit in years. What, if anything, should be done by the current owner or the next owner? Thank you.

Not sure why this matters.  All sorts of repairs/upgrades are done on brooklyn houses without permits.  Doesn’t make it right but hey, that’s life.  As long as you inspector says the boiler is OK, and there are no issues with the workmanship, you needn’t be concerned.  Your mortgage company won’t care either.

One day you will need to do gas work, lets say install gas drier or  something else. Plumber will send application, and will list gas boiler as an existing appliance. Then you will get rejection from building department along with fine and order to appear in front of the judge, because there is no gas boiler on record for your house. But hey, everybody does it, isnt it? But does it make it legal?

Do nothing, what worst could happen? Nobody does any work legally anyway, so why bother.
