DOB Sprinkler worktype and Schedule B

http://cdn.brownstoner.com/4e40c917e275d-.jpg

We are currently in a struggle with our plumber who recently installed a sprinkler system in our house and according to him it is filed as a separate line from our domestic service. In order to install a new water main we filed a schedule B as a service off the domestic and we were approved. Plumber is insisting we need an SP Worktype or we cannot get a sprinkler inspection and as a result we can’t get gas service. If he is correct this will have major implications including getting an engineer as well as add considerable time to completion. Does anyone have advice or detailed knowledge of this process or any other solutions?

I use a really good sprinkler guy who is very knowledgeable in these areas.  His name is Frank Smith and he owns Automatic Fire Sprinkler Service and Danielle Louise Inc. (I think they advertise on the site too).  His office number is 718-983-1858.  I hope this helps.  Good luck!

He could order the inspection, and if you fail, the DOB inspector will tell you why and what you need to do.

Get all three in the same room and don’t let them out until they agree on a course of action. Kinda like the budget talks!

Yes, it seems that under 30 heads would be under PL but our plumber says he cannot order an inspection. I would love to prove him wrong but I’m not sure how to proceed. His claim is that the service is a pre-existing separate line and not off the domestic but when we installed the new watermain we were required to plug the 2 existing lines and obtain a new 2″ tap. We were able to get all the permits up until this point but we can’t move forward.

On a current project where we have less than 30 heads, the quantity is accounted for under Sprinkler (PL).  The sprinklers and gas lines will be tested at the same time.

We installed 15 heads as well as DCDA, 2 RPZ devices and 2 meters, etc. We had an engineer draw the system diagram for DEP which was approved but he is adamant about not requiring additional filings as well as SP worktype. Our plumber is insisting we absolutely need an SP worktype but our expediter insists we can move forward without an SP worktype filing off the domestic. So everyone on board is in disagreement with eachother and the project is at a standstill. Not sure what to do next.

DOB always screws up the data entry on the Sch B, but this sounds like it was filed together with the plumbing and should have been filed separately on its own Sch B.

Schedule B almost always ends up getting refiled as an amendment.  For two reasons:  changes in scope and/or architect/engineer – or client – error.  Schedule B must match the approved drawings.

Your sprinkler heads should be quantified in Schedule B.

I rely on my plumber to fill out the form accurately during the amendment process, as he is the one who knows exactly what is demanded for inspections.  Your plumber may be correct.
