Is a Light in the Vestibule required by NYC code?
Why wouldn’t you want a light there? Show off that vestibule!

Is a light in a vestible required for code? The vestibule I’m inquiring about is for a 3 family brick building. It measures 4ft. X 5.5 ft. and is between the exterior door and another door leading into the first floor hallway. There is a light in front of the building and another one in the first floor hallway as well. Thanks for the help and advice.

All rooms are required to have a light fixture.

NYS Multiple Dwelling Law and New York City Administrative Code Title 27 Housing Maintenance Code both require that, in every multiple dwelling and tenant-occupied 2-family dwelling, the owner provide lighting for every public hall, stair, fire stair and fire tower on every floor. Illumination shed by exterior lighting does not qualify as interior lighting. When separated by a wall, illumination shed by an adjacent interior lighting fixture does not qualify as adequate lighting.

Yes, knew that about hallways, stairs, etc but deboar said “all rooms.”
