Heating sources ideas/ recommendations?

Would anyone have any ideas on additional heating source, preferably gas powered? My apartment is at the end of our heating loop (hot water) and it gets very cold. Electric space heaters get very expensive to run throughout the winter. I was thinking some sort of gas fireplace with a fan? Any ideas, suggestion? Thank you.
