Vinyl siding - remove and replace with wood or retain?

We are looking at a detached victorian farmhouse type property where the current owner a few years ago decided, rather than repainting and restoring the wood siding, to cover it with vinyl.  It surprisingly looks quite nice but almost too doll house like (too perfect). House is otherwise in great shape.  So question is, hold nose and live with vinyl for a while?  Or replace?  Admit given how new a job it was, seems ridiculous to go through all the cost of ripping out and restoring the wood siding, but on the other hand, I just hate vinyl (but this may be an irrational view). Thoughts?

I used to have a Victorian house and it was quite expensive to paint it which you have to do every 5 to 10 years so we put siding up and it looked great.  If you remove the siding, you run the risk that the wood is in bad shape which would require quite a bit of work.  The vinyl probably has insulation under it and will never need to be painted.

Me?  I would get rid of it.  Did the same on my house.  Under the alum siding was prettty good cedar siding, but in the end we ripped it off and installed cedar shingles.  If you have the $$$, go for it, if not, save and do it later.
