replace extension with a deck

so, here’s my question: the extension is butt ugly and cuts into the small yard. the house has enough space without the ugly extension… the dream is to get rid of the extension and replace it with a nice deck, sliding glass doors, and bingo: light, summer margaritas, perfection. has anyone gotten RID of an extension? done anything like this? if so, i would love to know what it cost you. thank you!

It is a little hard to say without knowing how big the extension is, whether there is any plumbing in it, and what the size and design of the new deck would be.  The cost is going to be more than you might imagine- all the debris will need to be cut up in small pieces and be carried out through your house. New materials carried back through the house including concrete for footings, etc.  It is done all the time, but is time consuming. You will need permits for the demo, the work on the facade and the new deck.  I would guess a range of $40-80,000.

With apologies for hijacking the post, is the converse possible? Can you enclose an existing deck and make it a sunroom?  If so, what would something like that cost?
