Referral for lead paint inspection

Hi there, if you have an opinion, would be great to get a referral for a good lead paint inspection/assessment company. We are closing on a house in Park Slope in January. Want someone who will assess the lead paint situation, but not someone who would necessarily remove it and re-paint (we want them to be incentivized to tell us the extent of things without over-selling in order to get more business). Thanks!

First, you should definitely check the archives on this site–many, many, many threads on this topic.   Second, you should learn a bit about what the difference is between lead paint PRESENCE and lead paint HAZARD.  Threads here will help, as a will an understanding of NYC law regarding requirements for landlords.  It is safe to assume that anything the City requires of landlords is beyond what a normal person would consider reasonably safe.   Third, you should hire a company that assesses the presence of lead paint as their only business.  There either is lead paint, or there isn’t, on each surface in your new home.  Have a firm test (via a super nifty laser-type gun) what the presence is.  Once you know, engage a second firm to discuss your wishes, if any, from an abatement perspective.   It sounds like a lot of work, I know.  But it is worth it to know your home inside and out, so as to not be taken advantage of (at worst) or to overcorrect with the help of well-meaning contractors (at best).   Good luck.

Try info@LPenvironmental.com.  I know the two guys that own this firm.  They used to work for a multinational environmental company for more than a decade and are the real deal for asbestos and lead inspections.  Since they just started their prices also seemed to be very competitive.  Good luck.
