Shouldn’t take much to install it. Not sure what the relevance is between the window and the brick building… I would do it. Call me at 347-276-6528 Levi SoHoAppliances

We put in wood marvins (we’re landmarked) a while back and the price sounds right and we love the windows. Some people I talked to said they thought the aluminum was good until they switched a few to wood and then went all wood because of better insulation (weather and sound). Many neighbors have had good experiences with LWP. If you have original windows, this will be messy. Cover any and everything that is important in the room and seal it off while they work.

I also have done this in a very similar manner to renoishard2. We installed Marvin French doors on my parlor floor going out to a deck where windows were previously. We had to install an iBeam above where the door would go. Costs were approx 4K for the doors, 3K for the ironwork and 4K for the contractor (removal of the old windors, opening up the brick wall, installing the door, finishing work around the new doors on inside and outside. We chose a standard Marvin size (8 ft tall by ~6 feet wide). When we first spec’d it out the custom sized doors were almost twice as expensive. Maybe that is part of the cost driver on your project.

Did it on two floors in the rear (garden and parlor floors). About $10k for each floor. Used Marvin sliders and transoms. Had to install one 20′ steel i-beam between the parlor and 3rd floor. It can probably be done somewhat cheaper. 100% worth it. I think screens are essential bc of mosquitoes and screens are easier with sliders. Good luck.

I use ALL HVAC for repairs and maintenance and have been happy with them. If you do their service plan, there is a discount on labor for repairs. I can’t remember how much, but the year we needed a new condenser, it was worth it $$ wise.

IGetting a cellar comfortable is all in air curculation theory. Pulling fresh air in, and moving moist air out. I have expanded on the Humidex and its methods. I get my fresh air from the stairwell, from the floor above. If i have bacon cooking i can smell it in the cellar. Air gets sucked down the stairs, i thought i was going to need to add ducts, but not the case. My Humidex has an air intake at the floor leveland it vents it out a duct hole out the building. It is a simple theory but it works like a champ. You can build your own system from off the shelf ductwork. I think your fresh air should come from the house, which would have the ac on. Getting muugy outdoor air would really test the dehumidifier.

I recommend Ebac dehumidifiers. Not cheap. I have a very damp underground garage. I use an ebac commercial grade dehumidifier. It has an adjustable humidistat and can pump water more than 10′ (if I recall correctly) vertically. If your interested I can get you the model number.

I have been in the shop a few times. I interviewed him for a job once, but didn’t pick him. I subsequently went to his shop to replace glass for a picture frame. Bernie can be really obnoxious and I have seen him be really downright rude to his employees. The other customer in the store and I felt really uncomfortable by how he yelled at his employees. He actually wasn’t nice to me either. He wanted to charge an “installation charge” for placing the glass in the frame, so I had to take the glass and “install” it on the sidewalk. It was pretty ridiculous. I only used him because he was near my house. I wouldn’t choose him for a larger job. Just my opinion, of course.

I have used Bernie’s. He’s a nice guy. Very knowledgeable about glass. He fixed my front broken window pane and installed a new glass insert for the secondary door. He did an excellent job. He also fixed my sash without cost because my window would not move. His shop is on Fulton street.

I have a filter in the line coming into my house that I put in 28 years ago. It’s a simple cylinder & you change the filter every few months. It’s under $100\. & Lowe’s & HD sell them. You can get different grades of filters depending on your wants. It’s worked well enough that my ice maker, washing machine, etc. are still fine after 28 years too. Also water heater has lasted many years beyond warranty. Water testing came back fine as well.
