Lawyer recommendations for contractor dispute

Hello, The Dept. of Consumer Affairs, the bureau that licenses contractors, is a great place to start because they will assign a mediator to your case and pursue the case with their administrative court/judges. If you’re like me and find out that the contractor that you thought was licensed was not licensed then the mediator will try to help resolve it within the duration of the 45 days, but the case can not be heard in their administrative court. I’m looking for construction litigation lawyers myself. If I hear of any good ones, I’ll keep you posted. Good luck with your situation.

Hi, Been an avid follower of these forums as we’ve been looking for properties and planning our renovation in BK. We started work with a contractor a couple of months ago who has now walked off the job with $100k of our cash. As is always the case, it’s a longer story than this, but the facts (and contractual back up) are beyond question. We’ve tried desperately to bring the contractor to the table to mediate but without any joy, so we’re left with no other option but to pursue legal avenues. Looking for a good lawyer recommendation. Seen a couple of posts that say that these cases prove expensive and it’s better to cut losses, but it’s too hard a pill to swallow to just walk away from so much of our money. Would really appreciate any good recommendations.

Oh, alexv, this story really gives us all the shivers. I checked with my brother-in-law, an attorney who I thought might be interested in the referral. He recommends you begin a proceeding within the Dept. of Consumer Affairs. The city will pursue on your behalf.

How does someone walk off with a 100k in cash ? Did you pay all of that upfront ?
