Hello All, We recently purchased an apartment in a four family pre-war building in Park Slope, with plans to do a gut renovation which includes removing several original walls. We had an asbestos sample taken from the walls as required when applying for permits, thinking it was a technicality–we were told that asbestos in wall plaster is uncommon in this area. Needless to say the sample came back positive for asbestos–our architect is saying we now need an abatement company to come in to do wall removal before permits will be issued. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any idea on expense? Would it be worth it to get another test done in case of a lab error? Thanks for your input–we’re still in a state of shock.
