What’s the general consensus about Washington Avenue? Do people feel like it’s still revitalizing or that it’s stalled? A few years back I thought it was on the brink of a lot of good change…

  1. I manage a property on Underhill Ave.

Vanderbilt and Underhill are improving more quickly than Washington; but it IS improving.
Make noise to the CB8, and the local Pct 77 re: drug dealing.

It’s on the way up– the whole area is actually.

  2. bobjohn, P.S. 9 on Underhill is reportedly pretty good, but I don’t know its borders.

oneasternpkwy, there HAVE been shootings in that bodega and incidents on that corner. …but as the saying goes, “until you get rid of demand, you will not get rid of supply”

(there are a few buildings locally that provide the demand)

  3. one more note about the drug dealing at Lincoln and St. John’s Place: do you guys think it’s silly to look into asking the city to install more streetlights (or to think about additional measures that would increase visibility, etc.)? to start some sort of neighborhood watch or neighborhood petition to the police? why won’t the police do anything about this?

  4. It is weird how Vanderbilt and even Franklin are improving so much faster. Why are there so many neglected/abandoned properties still there (northern two blocks off Eastern Parkway specifically)? Why aren’t more businesses moving in? There are all of those large and nice apartment buildings right around the corner on Eastern Pkwy with people who I’m sure would offer good business. I’m perplexed. What can we do about the drug dealing? We shouldn’t have to stand for that in our neighborhood.

  5. the dealing on the corner of Wash and St John’s is the biggest problem. It’s essentially an open air cocaine market, w/o anyone trying to hide anything.

I’d complain to the 77th, but clearly they know about it but either just don’t care or are on the take. it’s a shame b/c you have a stretch that’s really made tremendous strides over the last 15 years, yet this one pocket is allowed to remain.

until one day they’ll be a shooting or some sort of incident and then everyone will say, “how can this have happened?” the answer is b/c Captain Elvio Capocci and the 77th allowed it to happen….

  6. What is the empty business next to Idalias that has been renovated & its facade is comprised of ceramic tiles with pics of pebbles? Whatever it is I hope it is ironic as those tiles are ugly.
