My home has a driveway next to it which people seem to love to park in front of, despite the curb I painted yellow (and yes, I know painting the curb’s not legal either) and my car sitting there in the driveway . It’s getting pretty annoying– and then last night someone pulls INTO my driveway (though still sticking out halfway onto the curb) and goes into the big apt building next door for a few hours.

I know I can call the cops and once it’s ticketed, I can have them towed, but the one time I called it took them hours to get here (and yes, my situation is clearly no emergency) and by that time the car was gone.

So my question is- can I stick those annoying hard-to-remove stickers on people’s windows? Yes, it’s petty. Yes, it doesn’t really solve the problem. But yes, it will help me feel better when it does happen and hopefully make them think twice about doing it again.

I saw them for sale on a website and I was tempted.

Ok, you may respond now- I am prepared for the hate mail I may get for this post.

  1. 311 is useless for something like this. Call the precinct and (in a nice, appreciative tone) tell them that you have a surgical appointment on Long Island or something and can’t get your car out of the garage.

Once the car is ticketed it can be towed by a private company. I learned from the precinct last month that this applies to all ticketed, illegally parked cars. I had a jerk who habitually uses our fire hydrant as a personal parking space towed after I saw that it had a ticket on it.

  2. Our condo calls the cops, gets the car ticketed and towed. When I called 311 they told me that the car has to be ticketed before a tow company can tow it, but they may not be correct. Our precinct has traffic cops so we don’t usually wait too long for a ticket, but that will vary on the precinct and time of day.

  3. How about laying a short curb strip perpendicular to the driveway. You could still drive over it to get to your driveway.

It would certainly weed the people who made a mistake to those who think it is ok just for a few minutes.

  4. “A few minutes I don’t mind and I have never said no to anyone who’s asked to park because they’re moving or need a spot for a visit- I’m not a control freak”. sounds like you give them slack too much. They used to abuse your hospitality. If you see car’s owner – tell them that you need your driveway clear. Otherwise call cops and call towers. It is your property for pits sake.

Also nicer people leave phone number in parked car so you can call them back – check for this.

  5. We have similar issue with our private driveway. Every once in a while we would have someone parking their car right at the opening of our driveway or 2-3 ft past it. It makes pulling out almost impossible. There are times we would want to call to get the car towed but we are afraid of the retaliation. I would recommend just leaving a note or putting a sign “NO parking, will be towed”

  6. “If they parked on the street in front of my driveway I would slash they’re tires or if the car looks new- I would key the shit out of it.”

pretty sure bet that YOUR car won’t look new after they put 2-n-2 together. duh!

  7. If some dick parked IN my driveway, then they’d be towed immediately even if I had a chance to warn that dick, I wouldn’t. I would watch them go wherever they were in such a rush to get to and then call up a towing company.

I’m not saying you should do this because you seem nice but I’m a total asshole so If they parked on the street in front of my driveway I would slash they’re tires or if the car looks new- I would key the shit out of it. I have no respect for inconsiderate people.

  8. “I always figured you’d live on a white trash block, randi”

yeah, fort greene is super white trash. moron.
