DirecTV in Park Slope
Hey All, After hearing how unhappy so many are with Time Warner, we were looking to go the satellite route for our cable TV. Anyone have any thoughts on DirecTV or Dish Network? My only concern was with a lot of planes passing over I heard it might disrupt the signal- any truth to that?…
Hey All,
After hearing how unhappy so many are with Time Warner, we were looking to go the satellite route for our cable TV.
Anyone have any thoughts on DirecTV or Dish Network? My only concern was with a lot of planes passing over I heard it might disrupt the signal- any truth to that?
I’d love to hear from anyone with satellite cable in the Park Slope area- thanks in advance for any advice!
BEWARE OF DIRECTV. We had it when we lived in the Slope and now in Fort Greene. We are satisfied with the channels, picture, we hardly ever lose the signal, etc.
However, be prepared to be under contract to them for the rest of your life. There is a clause in the contract that says that any “upgrade” will extend your contract by two years. If your box breaks and they have to send you a replacement box? Two-year extension. Wanna go from regular to HD service? Two-year extension. That easy move they advertise? Two-year extension. And when they install it on your roof? Look out for damage. All these things happened to us. Good luck getting anything in writing or having anyone on the phone actually send you so much as an e-mail.
I would never get DirecTV again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

LOL HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA you come on here all the time and bitch about being poor and yuppies and how people in the projects only eat junk food AND THEN it comes out that you are paying $!30 a month for TV and INTERNET???? PLUSA of the day.
just put an antenna on roof and stop giving away money to these lousy cable companies. They should pay you to watch TV anyway.
Dish cuts out couple times a month on the average during not storms, but pre-storms (go figure). And they charge $20 for a in-house call even tho’ I have the monthly service fee. Not sure it’s any better than TW
i have time warner for cable and internet. they love sending you letters ever few months telling you that they’ve been undercharging you and now your bill is more. currently the bill is like 130 bux and that’s just for basic cable and internet. (with the dvr box which i think is 40..)
those dish companies also act shady. it’s cheap for the first few months then they jack up the prices hardcore. read the fine print.

I had Time Warner for years and didn’t have any problems.
My parents had DTV and it was pretty annoying since the picture would always cut out during a storm and you’re forced to get DSL internet.
I’ve got Fios now and it kills them all.
Thanks, NYGuy7. Now I know why I can’t make it work! Oh well. Not much on tv these days anyway.
Remyching, I had wanted FIOS as well, but they are being really slow about making it available over here. Been hearing the ‘any day now’ song and dance for a couple of years.
I saw a lot of dishes on the street after the tornado.
I have DirecTV for TV and Time warner for internet. DTV has a far superior picture to Time Warner. No FIOS yet or I would go that route.
Time Warner offers a 50mb down 5mb up plan called wideband. Best internet you can get in slope unless FIOS is around.
