Update:

One of our members spoke to Father Peter Young in Albany this morning and reported the following

According to Father Peter Young:
For an unspecified period of time, DHS has temporarily rescinded the closing of Peter Young as a men’s shelter. It now seems that the Peter Young facility will be used as a kind of drop in shelter.150 men will be bused in at night and bused out in the morning. (It’s possible they are already doing this.)
Please note: Part of the DHS proposal for bringing an intake center to the Bed/Atlantic armory included closing the Peter Young Shelter. Apparently this is not happening in the forseeable future.

Tonight CB 8 is voting on the Peter Young facility changing its use to a residential drug rehab.Something that is impossible as long as DHS continues to use it as a shelter. It is essential that CB8 is completely and well informed. We must have good attendance at tonight’s meeting. It is important to oppose the drug rehab. If it gets approved now, it will be difficult to undo. And since DHS is still using the Peter Young facility as a shelter, there is no point in approving the drug reahab tonight.

Disapproving the plan would be best, but even if CB 8 will just table it, we will have more time to move forward on affordable housing at that site. Father Peter Young says he is disturbed by this latest move by DHS. He/they want to do something more pro-active than one night stands at that facility and he is still very interested in the possibity of affordable housing.

Let’s get to the bottom of this:
Please Attend tonight’s CB8 meeting at 7 pm at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum located at Brooklyn Ave and St. Marks
