The Branding of Washington Avenue
There’s some nice branding synergy taking place on Washington Avenue in Prospect Heights. Does this mean this stretch could be poised to attract some more stores and restaurants? Let’s hope so. With all the new condos going up east of Washington, there’s going to be increasing demand over the next couple of years. GMAP

I live on Saint Marks ave between Washington and Grand–there’s a corcoran loft space building on the street that has been vacant/unfinished for over a year now–does anyone know anything about that? I do know that they disrupted the water line about a year ago, but there seems to be no activity over there at all.

I’ll miss the old Washington Avenue, seedy shops and low rent apartments it had charm. I enjoyed growing up there. Now the area is “coming up.” it is disgusting what is going on in the name of progress. Very little affordable housing, and soon I will have a harder time getting my car fixed!
Yeah, 1:36, and without all that govt cash Fifth Avenue would still be a shithole! Oh wait, sorry, THAT’S RIDICULOUS.
Actually the auto shops down the road are sold and will be developed. And there is A BID in the works that will improve Washington ave with state and city money!!
yay washington!
i love it here and i am psyched to see more and more business deveop…
some cafe opened across the street from the new condos this week.
For those who may not remember – Fifth Avenue benefited from being a special development district that received funds from the government and the entire redevelopment was planned. Not the case for Washington

Retail will come in time. It took 5th Avenue in Park Slope years to come together well after the neighborhood became decidedly wealthy.
It’s one thing to build a luxury development with money you borrow from a bank, it’s quite another to get a small business owner to put their financial well being on the line to open a restaurant or whatever.
Be patient!
