The New York Post released this rendering of the Pier 6 restaurant site, slated to open this fall. City officials are now seeking bids from developers who want to start a full-service restaurant that serves alcohol. The 2,000-square foot indoor section will have an outdoor terrace and rooftop seating with a pretty sweet view of the park, according to the rendering.

  1. the park needs income to sustain it. Under state law and the agreement with NY City it has to be self sustaining for maintenance and operation. Less restaurants = more residential. There is no way around that. and I hate cheesecake factory but that is life. You can’t say no hustle and bustle and still find a way to pay for the park…

If you have any suggestions for alternate to get more income now is the time…..there are hearings this week and next.

  2. I am so excited about the thought of relaxing with a drink on that roof, and the best urban landscape in world right in front of me. Awesome! In my opinion, you can’t have too many bars, especially in these stressful times. Just hope it’s not too expensive.

  3. There are a bunch of empty shops surrounding OBBP that will make Pier 6 a pretty bustling shopping area if they are eventually filled up. I don’t have an opinion as to whether or not that is good or bad.

I heard Cheesecake Factory is the leading candidate to win the RFP.

  4. @stargazer – seperating uses so that green space is seperated from commercial which is seperated from retail is a little too suburban for me. If you’ve been to the Ferry Building in SF, that’s a good model for a lively, urban waterfront.

  5. I also recently saw an RFP for “Willoughby Square Park,” a public space with an underground garage on Willoughby and maybe Bridge? Would love to know more about that — Brownstoner?

  6. these waterfront sites need much more retail, commercial and residential. They should be lively 24 hour places on the order of Union Square, not static, energy-less places to sit on a bench.

umm, this is a park for recreation & relaxation, NOT a retail-commercial shopping district.

and it is already residential across the highway…
