The opening party that The Developers Group threw for the Karl Fischer-designed Ikon, one of the new additions to condo row on Bayard Street in Greenpoint, was over the top to say the least, but we guess that was the point. Valet parking, velvet ropes, slinkily clad hostesses, you get the idea. Despite a visit from DOB and some glitches with the elevator, the club music kept pumping and, more importantly to the hosts, wealthy prospective buyers kept shlepping through the model apartment. Whether all the glitz will pay off in the form of sales at the 58-unit development remains to be seen. If it does, it will be due in no small part to the much talked-about views (see below), which are pretty spectacular, especially if you’re a soccer fan. We haven’t seen any prices yet. Anyone heard anything?

  1. Actually, no. The city views won’t be blocked because the towers you speak of are not starting the far up near the inlet. It’s further down along Kent Ave. And I wouldn’t worry about Greenpointe just yet. No one’s building luxury condos next to Radiac!

  2. Bushwick inlet is in the line of sight, as is the area along the waterfront in Greenpoint which has been re-zoned for hi-rise also. You clearly (a) know less than you think or (b) have an interest in not telling the truth

  3. Why so many haters out there? Did you prefer the creepy rundown New Jack City vibe of the former building? You people are ridiculous. And the person who wrote about the views is totally wrong since Kent Ave hi-rises are going to be too far south of the sightlines from this building, so it actually won’t affect it. You know-it-alls don’t seem to know very much about the area you’re talking about.

  4. i’m an artist that used to have a studio in that building, and I knew I was really big trouble (about four years ago) when i left for the day, got into my car, and in right infront of me, a huge Mercedes SUV pulled up to the building with the license plate “RLSTATE”
