The Brooklyn Paper and Patch report that Atlantic Yards’ Barclays Center will open on September 28th of next year. Nets CEO Brett Yormark says the official opening will be preceded by public tours and events at the arena. Work on the facade is expected to begin in June; at present, 70 percent of foundation work is complete and 30 percent of the structure’s steel is in place, according to Patch.

20k seats – virtually no one comes alone; most people will take public transport, of those that dont, huge percentage will take cabs, livery and other private (non-personal) transport. The impact will be minimal….1hr before an event and 40 mins after an event there will more traffic; other than that – it will hardly be noticed.
M4L, I don’t think the Rock, where the Devils play, is that much farther away from MSG than downtown BK is, so maybe the Rangers would be ok with it. Could create a nice rivalry not seen since the days of the BK Dodgers and Yankees. This is different than Toronto and Buffalo in the NHL, who for years have been blocking Hamilton (which is located between the two cities) from getting a team for fear of losing revenue.
“This is generic fare that’s available in every midsize city in the country.”
And why should New Yorkers have to travel to Newark or Uniondale to see it?
“Bob Marvin – Have you been to Lincoln Center?”
Of course; apples and oranges!
Biff, you think our rangers would’ve bitched big time if Devils were approved by the league to move to BK? if devils were playing in BK instead of NJ, they would be the definitively most valuable team in the league given their winning traditions (last 2 not withstanding)
“Take a look at the Madison Square website. Tons of amazing stuff night after night. This is the future of Brooklyn. If you don’t like it, you shouldn’t have moved to the largest and most crowded city in the United States.”
The acts who play MSG also play dozens of other hockey arenas in every city from Tampa to Seattle. Whether or not this type of entertainment is to your taste, this is generic fare that’s available in every midsize city in the country.
Brooklyn is getting an NHL team? Awesome! If not, BSM, I don’t think you need to worry about vomitting after Bantam and Pee Wee division hockey games.
“The terminal has plenty of capacity, although I do predict bottlenecks at the LIRR and subway stairs after games.”
And vomit before and after hockey games. Bad experience on the LIRR after a hockey game

No parking!? Is it to late for me to cut the curb in front of my brownstone and charge for event parking?”
Not too late. But you’ll need to change your login to IMFY.
