Kiddie Rocker Dan Zanes Tears It up For DDDB

The rain on Saturday didn’t put a damper on the Develop Don’t Destroy fundraiser at the Hanson Place United Central Methodist Church in Fort Greene. Dan Zanes, the ex-Del Fuegos front man who’s reinvented himself in recent years as the Bard of Brooklyn, entertained 1,400 of his fans, young and old, to raise money for DDDB’s fight against Bruce Ratner’s proposed Atlantic Yards development. We’ll be interested to hear from people in the audience about the non-entertainment portion of the event. Were there many speeches other than Buscemi?
Dan Zanes Packs the House [DDDB]
Still counting, and not yet one pro-Ratner whiner willing to post without remaining anonymous.
Yea, Dan’s always been “slightly” unpolished. Now he’s given his enemies permanent fodder for attack.
brooky i have no opinion on the atlantic yards projects. i just think dan zane and his following of park slope nazi mom’s are idiotic.
Neversink: DDDB will not win this if dan goldstein continues to make statements like this:
http://blogs.nydailynews.com/dailypolitics/archives/2006/06/whose_white_mas.php
In a nutshell, Dan G. described a group of African-American Supporters as Tools of “Their Wealthy White Masters”
ratner has the 1 governor that is about to leave office and the 5 big public financing banks on his side; DDDB has the hearts and minds of thousands and with more outreach the possibility of millions of voters.
DDDB can win this.
Knocking AY opponents because they happen to own brownstones is obnoxious and — on a site like this, for pity’s sake — deeply ironic. Brownstone owners like Patti Hagan actually aren’t millionaires until they become ex-brownstone owners. I mean, a brownstone is a place to live not a liquid asset. The problem with many of the naysayers on this site is that one suspects they do nothing but complain. And from tiny acorns, small fund-raisers, local consciousness-raising etc… after all, I’ll bet Robert Moses turns in his grave when he remembers dissing activists like Jane Jacobs and Grace Paley as “just a bunch of housewives.” AY is NOT a done deal and more and more people are recognizing what an absurd folly it is.
How about Magic Johnson. He’s developing the clocktower building after all.
I’m assuming that FCRC is now hatching a plan to bring Celine Dion to Brooklyn as a counter offensive. We all know that their financial backers are clearly in her target demographic.
…and Dan (Goldstein, not Zanes), when is DDDB going to find a former basketball star to sign on to oppose the Atlantic Yards project?
Hey 4:14-
Do you realize how lame it makes you sound to beat up on little kids in order to defend a back-room political deal? Do you always insult children in order to give taxpayer dollars for a non-transparent financial deal?
