Kiddie Rocker Dan Zanes Tears It up For DDDB

The rain on Saturday didn’t put a damper on the Develop Don’t Destroy fundraiser at the Hanson Place United Central Methodist Church in Fort Greene. Dan Zanes, the ex-Del Fuegos front man who’s reinvented himself in recent years as the Bard of Brooklyn, entertained 1,400 of his fans, young and old, to raise money for DDDB’s fight against Bruce Ratner’s proposed Atlantic Yards development. We’ll be interested to hear from people in the audience about the non-entertainment portion of the event. Were there many speeches other than Buscemi?

Good luck! 🙂
yawn.
No one ever said that the fundraiser should not have been held. The point was that the proceeds will not go that far in the real world, given how costly legal battles are.
these comments are so depressing… I’m leaning against Atlantic Yards but don’t feel very strongly. But the idea of having a problem with a comnmunity fundraiser– which, as a previous poster noted, is not really about fundraising so much as grassroots organizng– is just inane. We live in a democracy. We’re SUPPOSED to organize ourselves, speak out, listen, and etc… And in fact, if public mood starts to turn, that can be very powerful and can even overcome monied interests, in some cases. I guess these posters just want anti-Yards people to shut up?
10:58. when my child is in the car with me for 6 hours he doesn’t control the radio. and by the way he likes the beatles. thx
Anon 11:08 – I guess I’m missing something, but where is the shriek and howl. Far from being rants these are very reasonable arguments and exchange of ideas. (Not the ones about the kids though – don’t want to touch that)
For the millionth time: what does a person’s handle have to do with the content of their statements? If every anonymous person tagged the name “Bill” or “Julie” to their statements, it wouldn’t make a bit of difference to the anti-AY crowd. They’d still shriek and howl. Besides, even those posters who attach a name to their statements are still anonymous because their true identity remains a secret. Unless, of course, names like “clinton hillbilly” and “neversink” are on someone’s birth certificate.
wow. the person attacking dan zanes here is a) bitter b/c they’re still single and the clock is ticking or b) just born a loser…
thank god the kids are dancing to this rather than, say, a purple, DEEPLY annoying dinosaur. anon 8:48PM if and when you have kids (and I kind of hope you don’t) (for their sakes) you will genuflect to dan zanes and his kindred for giving you music you don’t mind playing on a 6 hour car ride.
what a loser.
ps. this is in no way an indictment of single people with no children. just the bitter ones…
ummmm…. one thing that seems to be lost in the goldstein debate is the fact that his slave comment is actually a really good analogy.
