After we broke the news yesterday of Whole Foods’ decision to go ahead with plans to build on a contaminated lot in Gowanus, Crain’s followed up half an hour later with a story of its own. My copy of Strunk and White clearly states
that one should always use the
future imperfect tense when blogging.
…jus sayin’.
would be way cooler if he wrote in the 3rd person.
I think Mr B used to work in the financial sector. In that case it’s common to use the plural when one is speaking for the firm or the team rather than in a purely individual capacity. Not sure if the same is true in media.
“for the record, we did go to school, work hard and get a real job”
DitmasSnark, Actually that seems to be a common usage that I see in old media (newspapers) as well – using 1st person plural when a single reporter is talking about himself. Maybe Mr. B, or commenters who are media people, can explain why that is.
Tough grammatical crowd here today.

Love your blog Mr. B, but you might consider using singular pronouns when referring to yourself.
Sorry, just had to poke the ant hill…
“And also for the record, we did go to school, work hard and get a real job,”
I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but clearly it wasn’t an English degree. Pick one tense, and stick with it.
Yep, that’s definitely up there among the all-time most bitter, personal attacks on this blogger! In fact, it’s so good, it might call for bringing QOTD back from the dead! For the record, more than two-thirds of today’s content is original. And also for the record, we did go to school, work hard and get a real job, probably at levels that EnglishKills could only dream about.
really? so much controversy over a supermarket?
