This new building at 65 Utica Avenue is something else. In a bad way. The color is one thing, the awkward window placement another. But that chimney? Maybe that’s where the church bell will go. I don’t know – there is a certain genius to the way that asymmetry of the parapet/chimney is balanced by the asymmetry of the second-story windows.
It takes a deft hand to pull that off.
At least the windows have keystones – very contextual…
Please think about having this built on your block the next time we are having a conversation about the pros and cons of historic districts.
With that odd chimney, I wonder if it will be a funeral home with a crematorium.
I tell ya it’s a free-for-all out here. 100 years from now these places will be referred to disparagingly as “Bloomberg-era”.

Ummmm, have you looked at the Streetview??? Who cares??? Besides, this’ll be the nicest thing on the block.
It’s a perversity, I know, but I’m a ‘so-bad-it’s-good’ kind of guy, and this is so, so, so very bad…. The plywood is in the way, but I do hope the utility meters are prominently on the front of the building.
