This new building at 65 Utica Avenue is something else. In a bad way. The color is one thing, the awkward window placement another. But that chimney? Maybe that’s where the church bell will go. After all, the new building permit is for assembly use (which means a church or concert hall or something along those lines). At least no one actually has to live in this thing. GMAP DOB P*Shark

  1. I don’t know – there is a certain genius to the way that asymmetry of the parapet/chimney is balanced by the asymmetry of the second-story windows.

It takes a deft hand to pull that off.

At least the windows have keystones – very contextual…

  2. It’s a perversity, I know, but I’m a ‘so-bad-it’s-good’ kind of guy, and this is so, so, so very bad…. The plywood is in the way, but I do hope the utility meters are prominently on the front of the building.
