Booker Again Predicts Nets Won't Make It To Brooklyn

“I’m going to go way out on a limb here and let you know maybe more than I should… I am confident now more than ever that the deal in Brooklyn is just not going anywhere. I think there’s going to be a comeuppance very soon where the team is going to go up for sale. That’s my prediction–I really do believe it. I’m working on this issue more than I ever imagined I would, because the Nets in Newark would have a significant game-change, in terms of the energy and the excitement and the job opportunities and economic investment in our downtown. So it’s something I’m working on a lot. I’ve watched the deal very closely. I know people that are involved in the deal. It does not look like it’s going anywhere in Brooklyn.“ — Newark Mayor Cory Booker on WGBO radio
Anyone with any interest in Brooklyn who defends Bruce Ratner needs to check their heads. Furthermore, the court decisions you’re linking to don’t make what Ratner is doing any more right.

If I remember correctly, the arena was first. Then Ratner added the whole AY thing to get more traction. In any case- lousy concept and lousy idea. I hope the Nets go to Newark- its a win-win for everyone there and hopefully a good thing for Newark. I don’t think the hotels were built on spec for the Nets. Its more a case of jumping on he bandwagon once they saw how well the Marriot was doing. Before that, for at least the last 20 years or more no one took the idea of a major hotel in Brooklyn seriously.
Corey has an arena sitting there already — deed done. He doesn’t need billions in taxpayer handouts. So it is a win for him.
Funny Corey Booker seems to think getting the Nets to Newark would be a win for his city (and no one objects-and he remains the hero) but if Marty Markowitz says the same thing regarding Brooklyn – you all say he is an idiot.
I am afraid Corey is right – and I know it will be a loss for Brooklyn – since I would really appreciate having a BB team within a 5min walk, BUT you people are counting you chickens again, since other than losing the arena and the Nets – this change would have ZERO effect on Ratner – who frankly probably doesnt want to build an arena anyway (it was always his loss leader) – he’ll just wait till the next cycle and build his towers anyway (as he should) sans Arena.
“What makes this so humerous is that booker knows about as much about what’s happening with this project right now as you do johnny.”
Wrong Dumbass! Brooker knows he got the Nets signed, sealed and delivered to him. He’s just trying to break the news gently…
The What
Someday this war is gonna end…
What makes this so humerous is that booker knows about as much about what’s happening with this project right now as you do johnny.
One thing’s changed – we had $50 million for affordable housing before our pols gave it to Ratner so he could buy land for his arena.
