the little cornice-like trim on the new building looks stunted compared to the real cornices on the rest of the block.
The whole thing looks a little wimpy and timid, but I suppose it could have been much worse.
Well, yes, I am a big fan of tennemts. I love the the way they look from the outside. I like the rows of windows, I like the tops arched. I just like them.
The condo plan flew out the door with the rest of the market so now this is going to become a high end rental wiht no amenities. And, talk about taking one’s sweet-ass time to finish. They must have 3 guys working the site at most; hell, I’ve seen 30 story high rises get built in less time, even with market and work stoppages. Someone took a bath on this financially; I’m guessing the original lender (i.e. investors).
How reassuring the building resembles the rendering.
Like the large windows and it looks like there’s decent ceiling height.
guess decent ceiling heights are bad too. maybe they should make them low like the bldg on the left.
horrendous – those apartments might actually get natural light and be comfortable to live in! no way jose!
And hush Tybur, there’s a nice selection of historic architecture on that little stretch of street. Rowhomes, the standard LES-styled tenement, a very unique and fairly large redbrick apartment house with bay windows in every room.
I do say, I quite like Pineapple Street.
Oh I don’t know. It’s a tad too modern for me but it’s not an entire glass hulk, makes decent use of it’s brickwork, and fits in pretty decently next to it’s older tenement neighbors without demanding all the attention of most gaudy modernist condos.
I give it a B- for effort.
The rest of the block ain’t exactly awesome either… let’s not get our panties in a twist. No real treasures to be had. Unless, I guess, you’re a fan of tenements and fire escapes.
