73 Pineapple, whose progress we’ve been charting for over three years now, is finally heading down the homestretch: The nine-unit building in Brooklyn Heights recently had all its windows installed. It’s even starting to look quite a bit like the rendering.

  1. This looks nice. The buildings around it look like crap in the photo (but I guess better in real life as I have been along this block lots of times & never noticed them especially).

  2. I looks like it’s sunken 6 feet into the ground. It’s not bad. Would have been better if they lined it up with neighboring buildings (which are not all in an exact line, so it wouldnt’ have been hard to be close. Close would have been fine).

  3. wber: a true contextual building is considered taboo. we do not even speak of these things.
a building should be of its time. in our case that would mean ugly and in recession.

  4. The black bits under the window look like a waterproofing membrane, which means there is still some decoration to come on this building. That said, this does nothing for me – a true modern would be fine, as would a true contextual building (more masonry, a proper cornice at the proper height, etc.). But this is neither here nor there. The top floor looks like an addition – one that would never be approved by LPC!

  5. Oh, thanks, Minard. Must have heard wrong – still have water in my ears from walking over the bridge this morning.

But while I have your attention, what’s going in where the black bits are, underneath the windows?
