360 Smith Tops Out

The once-controversial (is it still?) 70-foot-high development at 360 Smith Street in Carroll Gardens has topped out. Does it look every bit as hulking and out-of-context as everyone once feared? The blog Pardon Me For Asking recently had this to say about how the project was turning out: “The building has not only changed the skyline of Carroll Gardens, it has dwarfed neighborhood brownstones and blocked the sun of many residents along First and Second Place.”

actually, my objection is not to height in and of itself. i wonder about the width, which appears to stretch from smith st pretty deep into the block of first place (and its front garden homogeneity). if you owned a townhouse at what is now the western edge of the condo would you have been able to build this high?
ergo the hulk issue.
Out of context? Absolutely.
There are apartment buildings (some much higher than this) mixed in with brownstones all over Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope.
Why is this any different? Just because it’s new?
to the question in the post.
yes it’s hulky and out-of-contxt, in short a monstrosity.
but not to worry, despite all the problems of the location (one block from where subway comes out of tunnel and the traffic of third street and smith, well documented by frownies all over the borough), some day it’ll be “in context” as other beasts are sure to rise to keep it company.
Yikes! Totally disagree with you guys. I hate it too and think the PMFA person is pretty much spot on with this one.
Jesus Mary and Joseph, I just looked at the Pardon Me for Asking Blog and the writer is SUCH A WHINER!!
The building is actually too small
Bwahahahaha Pete!
she was against the subway being built too.
