Atlantic Avenue Art WalkIt’s the eighth annual Atlantic Art Walk. ArtWalk is a self-guided tour of open artist studios and area exhibitions, a range of public art projects, special events, with local merchants hosting a range of artwork and events. ArtWalk provides a relaxed setting for dialogue, collecting, and for artists to discuss current bodies of work, while offering viewers a glimpse into the creation process. Bushwick Open Studios
Bushwick Open Studios 2011 is the biggest yet with more than 350 shows in 130 buildings spread over four square miles of Bushwick, parts of East Williamsburg, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Ridgewood. BOS brings the neighborhood’s thousands of artists and performers out into the streets and in view of each other, other community residents, and the general public. Brooklyn Flea + Smorgasburg
On Saturday, the Flea is held at 176 Lafayette Ave. (between Clermont + Vanderbilt Avenues) in Fort Greene. On Sunday, the Flea will be at 27 North 6th Street (between Kent Avenue + East River). Check out hundreds of clothes, antique and food vendors. And on Saturday it’s the all-food market Smorgasburg, at the same Williamsburg location. Saturday & Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free.
Story Time at the Greenlight Bookstore
Everyone knows that B is for Brooklyn but what else can we learn about our favorite borough? Local authors Augustine and Peter have created a beautiful alphabet guidebook that celebrates our Brooklyn in colorful photographs and alliterative sentences. The images depict what makes Brooklyn special, and the book is designed to appeal to kids and grownups alike with tidbits on the borough’s culture and history along with the letters of the alphabet on every page. Peter and Augustine present their book with an interactive reading at Greenlight! Saturday, June 4, 11:00 a.m., free.
The 18th Annual Red Hook Fest
The 18th Annual Red Hook Fest (June 3-4) is a FREE outdoor arts festival featuring some of the country’s most powerful progressive musicians and dance companies and over 200 Brooklyn youth performers. This year’s festival is all about interactive art-making, with photography, storytelling, visual arts projects and more that you can take part in. June 3-4, with a rain date of June 5th.
